CORB Information Resource Centres

Over the 25 years of the Commission’s existence, there have been valuable lessons with regards to the development of the 725,000 km2 expanse of the Cubango Okavango River Basin (CORB) and this rich volume of information is useful and relevant to stakeholders such as students, researchers, development planners, NGOs , Community Based Organisation  and other RBOs. Further to this the OKACOM Information and Communications Strategy prioritises the need to transform the mind-sets of Basin stakeholders to adopt a trans-boundary thinking approach. As a trusted advisor to  the three member state governments, OKACOM views access to information, accurate data as key in  engaging stakeholders in the planning and management of the Basin. In this respect, key educational materials and communication messages are required to build capacity and knowledge about the Basin amongst stakeholders on the best common approach and the benefits of trans-boundary cooperation on the management of the CORB.

The OKACOM Information and Documentation Centers are a cluster of resource centers established in each of the three member states to serve the information, education and communication needs of a wide range of Basin stakeholders. Equipped with relevant educational materials, audio visual resources and documentation in both English and Portuguese, the centers currently established are:

  • The Centro de Documentacao E Informacao Da Bacia Hidrografica do Cubango-Okavangao in  Menongue, Angola in partnership with the University of Cuito Cuanavale
  • The OKACOM Information and Documentation Center hosted by  the Botswana National Library Service in Maun, Botswana
  • The OKACOM Information and Documentation Center in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism located in Rundu, Namibia

Learning, Engaging and Transforming Mind-sets

The centres aim to provide a learning and exchange platform to increase the level of awareness of OKACOM’s work and also serve as user friendly resource hubs for documentation needed for development and management of the Basin whilst promoting the basin-wide shared vision of the CORB. The centres are administered by national level partners and are accessible to the public in all three countries.
